GO BIG OR GO HOME: Choosing to Override the Fear of Failure
Harmonious Balance Online Store Grand Opening!

**I have something special for Founding Members and Annual Subscribers at the end of this post.**
God, if you show me how to do it, I’ll do it. (I’ll share the story behind this statement in a minute).
Since my last post, which referenced sports, more sports history was made. The Oklahoma City Thunder won their first NBA Championship. The runners-up were my home state team, the Indiana Pacers. I say home state because there is a bit of distance between myself and the team representing my home state. No bad blood. It’s just that my home city is Gary which is in the Chicago media market. Growing up, many times I felt like the only reason we weren’t a part of Illinois was Indiana wanted to claim home to Northwest Indiana’s roaring steel industry of old. In any case, I considered the Chicago sports teams to be my home teams growing up.
But I digress…
In pure dramatic fashion, the star player for the Pacers, Tyrese Halliburton, went down with an achilles injury. The series was hard-fought and went all the way to Game 7 in the best of seven series. Given the fact that I have no real connection to either team, it’s a bit odd for me to include this series in particular in anything that I write. What I found intriguing was a lot of the conversation surrounding this series and the NBA this season.
The scuttlebutt around the NBA that I heard this season was that ratings were lower. The games have becoming boring to watch. When the NBA Finals teams were set, I heard them describe the championship contenders as “smaller market” teams. Something I never heard a professional sports team referred as. Essentially, it seemed as if they were creating a narrative to explain any significant slippage in viewership for the Finals.

But in the end, it turned out to be a good series. I even read some comments that this series restored some fans’ love for the game. Perhaps it’s because I really only tune in for the playoffs that this was surprising to hear. At the same time, it’s the NBA Finals. The winner will be donned NBA Champions. If you ask me, all of this diminishing talk is rather insulting.
Why wouldn’t the teams come to play? Why wouldn’t they leave it all on the court?
This was the moment to GO BIG OR GO HOME! And both teams chose to go big!! Only one team could walk away with the prize, but both teams competed vigorously for it.
And on that note…
Harmonious Balance is going big with the opening of our online store!!
It was quite the undertaking. But one that I am proud to be launching out into the world. When I started Harmonious Balance, I understood that getting the message out would take a multi-pronged approach. Designing merchandise with the Live Your Best Life. Be Your Better Self. Accomplish the Greater Good. message would be one of those prongs.

It took longer that I expected to bring to fruition. Like I said it was quite the undertaking. There were many moments that made me wonder if I had bitten off more than I could chew. I questioned if I should move forward at this moment or if I should take this on at all. I had an easy out. I could easily shrink back because no one else would be the wiser. But I couldn’t give up because this was something that I had envisioned to do even though the fear of failure was riding shotgun.

We often talk about overcoming fear but I don’t know that we ever overcome it. To me, overcoming something means we don’t contend with it anymore. Yet we know that every new venture requires a measure of faith, which means fear will always be coming along for the ride. Fear, unfortunately, is ever present. The decision is whether or not we will override fear. Clearly my decision was to override it. My mantra has always been
God, if you show me how to do it, then I’ll do it.
Learning is my superpower. I’ve always believed that I could learn anything. While that is true for everyone, but on the real, learning is one of my top 5 strengths according to the Clifton Strengths Finder assessment. It’s all just a matter of if I feel compelled to learn it. With Harmonious Balance, I am compelled and willing to figure out whatever I need to figure out. It will not be said that I didn’t position myself for success.

That’s what going big is all about. Going big is investing in yourself. Going big is about expressing your sense of worthiness through your efforts. Going big is about getting prepared for the moment so that you can step into it as soon as the moment presents itself.
